Marketing Lessons from Seth Godin

For the past couple of days, we’ve been reading a lot of books. As far as I can remember I read almost three books in three weeks time. It’s a bit slow you might say but I like to note that I still have my Monday to Friday work, my blog posts daily, my daily conversations with my family, my weekend activities and preparations to my first ever Internet Marketing Workshop event.

And I’m excited to read a new book from Seth Godin entitled Meatball Sundae. Before I discuss that book (because I already have some idea what topics will be discussed in that book through Tito Tony and Edel’s stories), I’ll first share with you some marketing lessons I’ve learned from All Marketers are Liars Story Tellers.

• Find a product that you really, really like. In my case, I really love to read blog articles from my mentors (this includes Bo Sanchez, Seth Godin, Jomar Hilario, Janmck Hilado, and a lot more). I love reading a lot of books (Robert Allen, Mark Victor Hansen, Seth Godin, Bo Sanchez, etc). Lastly I really love to learn more about my finances, my health, and my relationships with my family, friends, colleagues and my God in short all aspects of my life.  I have this vision of becoming a role model in a society I belong. Through the help of these materials, I know I’ll get there someday.

• Tell the world about the product that you like. In other words, share your stories. Share how these products changed your life. Share your experiences through writing, through videos, through stories, and any form you choose. In my case, this blog and the some forms of social media (facebook, twitter, mail etc), enables me to share my stories to a bunch of people online. I create blog posts like these or shout-outs in my facebook page to share some key learnings that helped me grow. Sometimes, people are not fond of reading my posts but that’s okay. It is not intended for them anyway. I know I have attracted people having the same mindset. Luckily, you’re one of them.

• Live with your story. This is the most crucial part of marketing. Your followers (or the people you have attracted) need to see an inspiration in you. They need to see a proof that the product you are telling them really helped you. If it does not show, they will never believe in your story or worst they’ll look for someone that they can trust. A follower can really distinguish if you are lying or if you are telling the truth. So be really careful what you are sharing or selling. If you can’t do it, don’t say it. Walk the talk.

A successful marketer follows the principles above. Some people can really sell products they don’t like but there will come a time that people will notice it. Once the people notice it, definitely his sales will drop significantly and the worst thing that may happen? Trust will be lost.

Don’t lose that hard-earned trust.

Find a product you believe in. Share them. Walk the talk.

Law of Attraction in Action

Story 1 : Whatever I want comes to me

I asked for some friends’ advice regarding the next book I should read. I posted it on my facebook account and noticed that most of my friends are willing to help my dilemma. For sure they suggested a lot of good books to read (I thank God for having them as my facebook buddies) but my mind tells me that I should read something more interesting aside from reading novels. I guess I graduated from that kind of stuffs. As far as I can remember the last novel I’ve read is Coehlo’s The Alchemist (got this book from Chanot as a birthday gift, again thank you). I guess, that’s quite a while.

Don’t get me wrong. I love reading. But novels are not my interest anymore. Recently, I’m interested in books that would help me as an individual; books written by Kiyosaki, Allen, Hansen, Godin, Losier, and Sanchez. They inspired me, A LOT.

Anyway, two days have passed, I haven’t decided on what to read or which author to follow next.

To my surprise, my boss returned my hard bound copy of Law of Attraction book plus one more book, a reconsidered, revised and expanded book entitled “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” by Robert Fulghum (on my next posts, I’ll be sharing some of my insights regarding this book so stay tuned).

This incident made my day. This just affirms that the universe will give everything I want.

Just solved the dilemma on what book to read and got my book back.

Story 2 : The story behind the Law of Attraction Book

When we went to Malaysia last November for some training, I’ve introduced a book to my boss. The book was written by Michael Losier entitled Law of Attraction. She was curious and asked me to tell her something about the book. I told her that this book will give you something what your mind wants, either negative or positive.

So she tested the book’s magical power.

Actually, she tested the book without reading it. She said that she wants her boss to be busy making some calls, be in a meeting etc. So that she won’t be disturbed and can finish her report as soon as possible.

In an ordinary day, her boss will go at her room five times to ask for updates, reports, and other work stuffs.

On that day, he just went once. And then the following day, the same thing happened. The boss visited her once and left the office at midday. Imagine that.

To cut the story short, she believed that the book has magical powers. She never let go that book.

I told her, that I’m planning to re-read the book again so that I can remind myself of that law every now and then.

Out of desperation to get that book from her firm grip, I bought another book for her in exchange for my copy. She didn’t accept it.

But I’m persistent. I tried and tried until we made a deal.

The deal was, if we hit the Inventory target for the year (2009), she’ll send the hard bound copy of the book back.

Of course you already knew what happened.

Farewell 2009 Hello 2010 Part 2

Here’s my 2010 fearless forecast.

2009 will be ending right. I have accomplished so many things like planning my finances, getting a financial mentor, acquiring the right financial mindset and having the right focus on obtaining my dreams.

They said that humans are created in the same likeness and image of God (Genesis 1:26-27). If God uses his words to create everything in the world, I will also be using my words to create the things I want to happen for 2010.

Here it goes!

Part 1: Building Great Relationships - Harnessing What’s There
My 2009 ended with a lot of hanging opportunities. We ended up at finding our financial mentors, finding the right vehicles to wealth (mutual bonds, real estate, blogging etc) and having the right mindset, the mindset of a goal getter. So what do we do with these arsenals at hand? Of course we need to utilize them. We need to maximize them to the fullest.

With this, I’m focused to build a great relationship with my family, my mentors and my colleagues. First, with my family, I’m focused in solving our financial problems. This will happen with the use of proper financial planning. We will be setting up our own goals as a family. We will be reducing our expenses and we will be looking at ways to increase our cash flow. To start this, either I will bring them to Makati to attend the Wealth Academy Series or I will bring the Wealth Academy series here in Calamba. The latter idea sounds more interesting.

With regards to my mentors, I will get in touch with them in every situation I need guidance. As they continue to inspire me with their knowledge and wisdom, I will motivate them more through the results I’m accomplishing, through the friendship I’m offering and through my life experiences.

To my financial mentors, Doctor Dada Rosanes, Ms Ann Salvador, and the whole IMG team led by Engr. Noel Arandilla this year will be our year. We will continue to spread the financial wisdom to all Filipinos out there to regain their hope towards attaining their financial freedom (I’m thinking of putting the series online, what do you think?). Surely, we will have a good time doing this.

In addition, Edel and I will be celebrating our birthday’s this year differently. We will be treating both of our families in a decent eat all you can buffet. Isn’t that exciting?

Part 2: Increasing my Cash Flow – Planting More Seeds
I will continue to plant seeds for our financial freedom. This includes investing for my future and for my future family.

One of the seeds that I will be planting is the investment in mutual funds. I will use the mid-year bonus as a start-up capital for this one. With the help of my financial mentors, I know that this will be a low risk move that will bring us to a high return investment in the future.

Also, I will be planting more seeds of financial knowledge this year. I will be exposed to a lot of great books written by best-selling authors like Robert Kiyosaki, Robert Allen, Mark Victor Hansen, Seth Godin, Bo Sanchez, and many, many more. Like them, I’ll inspire others to gain financial wisdom. Like them I’ll inspire everyone to be a champion in all aspects of their lives. I'll use my blog as a tool to spread the word of encouragement, word of hope, word of wisdom and some good advice.

One more thing, I’ll be creating at least 3 best-selling books that I will be giving away for free (I hope I will not change my mind this year. Laughs!). These books will contain my experiences and challenges towards becoming a champion. I know this would really inspire everyone who reads it. Part 3 : Creating a New Set of Habits - Path to Greatness
For most people, this is their new year’s resolution. I do have one too. Starting tomorrow, I’ll wake up early. Do some early breathing exercise while lifting my daily intentions to God. All my concerns, all my worries, all my goals, all my daily tasks will be lifted up to Him. I admit, this year I lack prayer. I’m too much focused on getting things done (this is not bad but often times I did not include God on those tasks). So this part, I’ll be more focused on getting things done and involving God in those tasks.

Another set of habit I’ll be doing are the following. I’ll sleep at around 10pm and wake up at 5:30 in the morning (this includes Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays). I’ll be eating a lot of healthy foods. I will be limiting myself in drinking soft drinks and coffee (doctors say that caffeine masks out calcium).

I will be more optimistic this year. I will smile all the time. I will share everything I have. I will be more of a goal getter in 2010. Definitely, I will be one of the best in 2010 in our company, in my businesses, in my career and in all aspects of my life. In short, I will be a champion!

By the way, you might ask, why am I writing all of these stuff? Well, I do this so that I will be forced to change my habit. I will be obliged to work in fulfilling these tasks. My name is on the line. My credibility is on the line. If the stakes are high, for sure, these things will be accomplished. These things will be done.

I know there are a lot of great things that will come in 2010. Gee. I am excited to face them and run towards our goals.
