An Inspiring Video : Nick Vujicic

Found this video of Nick Vujicic while reading status messages in Bo Sanchez’ fan page. It’s really worthwhile looking for inspirational videos like this.

This is really an example of people making a dent in the universe. He may not have arms or limbs but he really made a mark in a lot of people’s heart. I believe that we can do that too.

Before watching this video make sure you have tissue or handkerchief with you. You’ll definitely cry after watching this video. Enjoy the clip.

I'm blessed!

There are a lot of reasons for me to say about the things that happened this week but these are the top blessings I received for the week.

We got six new books. Last Saturday we went to Pavilion Mall in Binan to attend the Feast Laguna. We were so early that time that we decided to drop by to National Bookstore to buy a card for the Christening of our friend’s daughter. We stumbled upon a portion of books on sale and I noticed Robert Allen’s* Creating Wealth for hundred bucks. Inspired by what we’ve found, we kept on seeing great books after great books until we got a handful. I decided that I can have a budget of one thousand bucks for everything we can find. This limiting factor enabled us to really pick the best among the rest. In short, we got six books for only P1,400. The additional 400 was contributed by Edel because we think that the six books we got are the best (in that pile of books on sale). 

We got the following books.

3. Career Warfare, 10 Rules for Building a Successful Brand

I’m blessed because I have the resources to buy books that would really help us in our future. I’m blessed to have great authors that will be renting a portion of my mind. They will challenge me to be the best person I can be. I’m blessed to have a great friend, life partner and soon to be wife that have the same mindset as mine. I’m really enjoying my days with her.

Not only that. I was blessed to have a time to look for a card (or a gift) for our friend’s daughter which led me to sharing another great blessing I received this week: bonding with friends.

The Christening of our friend’s daughter enabled us to bond with our friends. It was an amazing experience to reconnect with them. I admit that we encountered a challenging weather. On our way to the church we were met by a heavy rain which flooded our roads in a very short span of time. Good thing we had a friend who’s willing to fetch us (thanks Sho). We arrived at the church on time for the Christening.

We had fun talking to them, listening to their stories, singing with them, eating with them, in short bonding with them. No thunderstorm or typhoon can prevent us from having a great time.

Upon writing the blessings I got this week, I realize these things.

Blessings are everywhere; we just need to realize it’s there.

The best things can be found when we look for it.

A great friend is there when you need it.

No thunderstorm or typhoon can prevent us from having a great time.

Here's the best realization, God is a great orchestrator of events. All these things will not happen without Him.

Life as a Virtual Assistant : Automating Things

For days (actually months), I’ve been answering emails as part of my tasks as a virtual assistant. As a virtual assistant, I’m handling three events, two this August and one in September. This keeps me busy for the past couple of days.

Sometimes boredom kicks in while doing things repeatedly (take note that I’m receiving and sending out emails to 100+ people). So it forced me to look for better ways to manage this kind of task efficiently.

I found a way how to automate things. I researched. I adjusted some settings in the email account. I tried sending sample email to myself to see if it works. After successful attempts, I let it go.

What software did I use?

It’s just Microsoft Office.

I am using Microsoft Word to generate a unique message together with Microsoft Excel for my email database. Then once the message is ready, it will be transferred to Microsoft Outlook that will send the unique messages to the recipients. The 100+ emails will be finished in less than five minutes. However, doing it manually, would take about 30 minutes to one hour.

Imagine that saved time. In one hour, you can read 8-15 blog posts (try reading Seth Godin, Bo Sanchez, Janmck Hilado, 43 Folders, Edel Ramilo etc). You can read 30+ status messages and comment in some of them. You can watch three to four 15-minute inspirational YouTube videos (or from TED.com). You can create a post for your blog. Or you can sleep early.

Here’s what I learned. Setting up an automatic machine would require us a lot of time. It will take hours, days, or even weeks depending on the complexity of the process before we can create one. But if we manage to create one, we can enjoy our time more in doing things we really, really love.

I know that you can do it too. Automate a repetitive task that bores you to focus more on the things you love doing.

Highly Recommended Online Tools

Time flies so fast. Last year, I remember myself posting on this blog the top ten things I do as I open my internet browser. Today, I’m going to share with you some of the sites I highly recommend to simplify the things I’m doing online.

Here are my top recommended sites.

Ping.fm. This site is very helpful to me since I manage a lot of social networking sites. This works really well for me if I’m promoting an event, telling everyone my latest affiliate product and most of all alerting every social network if I have a new blog post all in one click. To use this, just make sure you link every social networking site you have to ping.fm and then update your status message. You don’t have to go to your social networking sites anymore to post your status messages. By the way, they link to your Yahoo Messenger and Gtalk status message as well.

Threadsy.com. I manage a lot of email accounts in yahoo and gmail and this site consolidates them all. This site will get all your inbox (both read and unread) emails in your yahoo and gmail accounts and put them in one site for you to manage. No need to log out often to check other email address because Threadsy.com will do the trick. This works with your facebook and twitter updates as well.

Bit.ly. The shortest URL shortener site I love. Bit.ly shortens your links and provides statistics of how many times this URL is clicked. This site is best for affiliate marketers to mask out there long affiliate links. This works to very long URLs as well.

Imvisible.info. I use this often at the office to play tricks on my invisible friends in Yahoo Messenger. This site detects if your friend is invisible or offline in Yahoo Messenger. This is a cool online tool to identify invisible yahoo messenger users. There are a lot more status messenger detectors out there but this site is the fastest and free. Now you can spy your buddy to see his real YM status. Invisible mode no more! It also offers Yahoo Messenger Status indicator in your website. By the way, I’m still looking for other platform like Skype, AIM, Facebook chat etc.
