How to Optimize Search Engines

The ultimate goal for a blogger or an internet marketer is to be noticed on the internet. They want their website or blog to reach more readers as much as possible with little or no effort. Little effort means even if you don’t promote (your website or blog in social networking sites such as facebook, twitter, multiply etc.) you’ll still be able to attract readers to view your blog or website.

The best way to do this is by doing search engine optimization.

There are a lot of ebooks out there that teaches us ways on how to increase traffic on our sites. Honestly, most of them are telling you that you need to promote your blog or website hard enough just to get more traffic.

New Feature in Blogger : Blogger Template Designer

Every day I’m opening my inbox for new messages.

And today, there’s nothing quite new. Nothing unusual. I got an email from Seth Godin, from Kerygma Family (Didache, Sabbath and the Readings for today), from Truly Rich Club (which includes Godwhispers and Wealth Strategies Newsletters), from Facebook and Twitter updates.
As I checked on my spam messages, I notice something very, very interesting. This message is not really a spam but very, very useful indeed. The email? You might ask. It’s from Blogger Team.

They have announced a new feature in blogger. I know most of you would really, really love this new feature. It will help you design your own blogger templates without the hassle of understanding the complex HTML codes. This is good news right?

Here are the new features available in Blogger Template Designer.

• Beautiful new templates to start from
• Custom layouts with one, two or three columns
• Hundreds of background images
• Customizable colors, fonts, widths, background, and more.

Did I mention that this feature is in draft.blogger.com?

This means that you can customize your blog without affecting the live version. Isn’t that great?

Oh well. Just try it out yourself.

New Feature in Blogger

I noticed something new in blogger. They added a new feature called Pages. This feature is somewhat like the category links in Wordpress. This would automatically create a page list that would help viewers to navigate thru your blog.

You can now add About Me Page, Contact Me Page, and any other pages you want. This could make your blogs attractive to readers. Now you will not worry about the template to use because Blogger now has the page link list easily available.

Maximum of 10 pages can be added.

Here are the steps to create your own pages.

1. Go to blogger dashboard
2. Go to posting tab
3. Click on Edit Pages
4. Click on New Page Button (It will prompt you to a new post layout.)
5. Enter the page name
6. Enter the page post
7. Once done, click on Publish Page
8. Select the desired location of the Page list Link (I’d prefer the blog tabs for these links)

Blogger Tips : Fixing Undefined Dates

I noticed there are a lot of Pinoy Bloggers out there in the blogging universe. A lot of us are using blogger.com as the hosting site for our blogs. From my previous post, I've discussed some blogging ideas like the difference between adsense-optimized blog and passion blog, adding photo slider widgets, shortening URLs, etc. On this post, I'll be discussing some minor fixes regarding the downloadable blogger templates.

Most of us are experimenting with different blogger templates that can be easily downloaded in the world wide web. Why are we doing this? One reason, because the predefined blogger templates are very common, very limited and very simple (no special design whatsoever). We want our blogs to stand out from the rest. We want our blog/s to attract more readers/clickers (just to clarify, I'm not saying that if we use the predefined blogger templates we'll not be able to attract more readers okay?). Creating a nice looking blog a good SEO will do the trick of having a semi-passive cash machine. Please take note, that if you're a newbie in blogging and you want to earn fast, don't change the template right away. Kindly prioritize posting articles.

Okay. Let's say you're not a newbie in blogging and you want to design the layout of your own blog. However, you don't know how to create HTML scripts. Don't be sad. There's still hope. Google is the key. Just google free blogger layout in the search bar and this will do the trick. You'll select from thousands of free blogger layouts available.

However, I noticed that some of the free blogger layouts available when copied and pasted in the layout>>Edit HTML, something unexpected will happen particularly in viewing the blog. An undefined portion appears. Click here to view an example.

Did you notice the undefined portion? It's an eye sore right? Supposedly that portion should be the date part.

So how do we fix it?

Simple. Follow these easy steps.

1. Go to Dashboard>>Blogger Layout>>Page Elements.
2. On the blog post portion, click on Edit.
3. A pop-up window will appear. On that pop up window you'll see a lot of check boxes. On the third check box change the time format into long date (e.g. Tuesday, December 15, 2009). The long date is the fourth option in the drop down list.
4. Click on Save and then view your blog.

The fix blog should look like this. Click this link to view the example.

Photo Slider Widget

I found a new widget in the world wide web. It's cool and I know it'll be nice to have this on some of my blogs. I'm looking an automatic image slider thing like the one on this blog (carousel) for the past couple of months with less codes. I discovered slide.com one a month ago but I only need the slide function not too much animation.

Here's what I want.

1. Instant photo upload
2. Adjustable image size
3. Loads quickly
4. Free

I found these characteristics in goodwidgets.com.

I tried it out on my newly created blog and I'm happy with the results. Click here to check it out.

Shortening URLs

Are you blogging and sharing your blog posts in social media like Facebook and twitter? If yes, this post is for you.

For this post, I'll be talking about shortening URLs. I'll be sharing the two shortening URLs sites I know, bit.ly and tinyurl.com.

First let's define some terms.

URL - basically URL or Uniform Resource Locator is an unique address which identifies a resource on the internet or webpage. For example, on this site the URL of the homepage is http://elvinperia.blogspot.com. If you're reading this post alone (meaning there's no moving pictures on the header) the URL is http://elvinperia.blogspot.com/2009/10/shortening-urls.html. I hope you got my point.

Shortening URLs are very useful if you have a blog or a website which are promoted in social media sites more particularly in twitter. Twitter as you may know contains 140 characters per tweet. This means that if I paste this post's URL on my tweet (http://elvinperia.blogspot.com/2009/10/shortening-urls.html, which contains 59 characters), I only have 81 characters left for my post description. Description is important in encouraging others to view your link.

If we use shortening URLs then we will be able to increase the remaining characters of our tweet. More characters would mean longer description.

tinyurl.com is a web service that provides short URLs in replacement with long URLs. It was launched last 2002. The TinyURL homepage includes a a form that's used to submit a long URL for shortening. For each URL entered, the server adds a new alias in its hashed database and returns a short URL such as http://tinyurl.com/eperia in the following page.

bit.ly, like tinyurl.com, also provides short URLs in replacement of the original long URLs. It has lesser characters and provides some good statistics about the links.

Comparing this two shortening URL service, I prefer bit.ly because it contains lesser characters and because of it's additional functions.

Celebrate! Your Success

Just finished reading Law of Attraction by Michael Loiser. It's a great book. It can change the way you think thus attracting the things you want in your life. Of course who would want negative things to happen in their life? Law of Attraction will help you to stay positive and think positive in all the things you do because what you think or what you say will come to you.

Anyway, I'm not here to discuss the book but instead to create a consistent flow of positive thoughts. One way to do this is to celebrate every successes you've earned.

So what did I earn today?

Three of our blogs earned today.. Well, our blogs earn everyday but most of the time, it just one blog or two. Today, three of our blogs earned. This is the start, I can sense it.

Another thing, I earned additional knowledge in promoting our blogs.Social networking sites like facebook is really an effective tool for blog promotion. In less than an hour, it has 23 hits from facebook alone. Just search for a group that is really interested in your niche. For example, I have a Heroes blog so I need to find a group that loves Heroes. After posting recent news or articles, promote it. then expect traffic from those sites.The more the merrier.

Thank God for this wonderful day. Tomorrow will be a better one.

Passion or Adsense-Optimized/SEO Blog?

Passion blog or Adsense-Optimized/SEO blog? If it's both then good. But what if it's not? This question keeps my mind busy yesterday as i replied to one forum question in PinoyNetWizards.

So in today's post, I'll be discussing the pros and cons of passion and Adsense-Optimized/SEO blog based on my experience.

Passion blog. I had created a lot of blogs about them. The most famous of them is my Heroes Blog. It contains spoilers, news and everything about my favorite TV show Heroes. I love writing and searching about the latest Heroes news, gossips and spoilers in the world wide web.

Creating a passion blog requires lesser time as compared to Adsense-Optimized/SEO blogs. Promoting it with Social Networks like Facebook, Twitter and Multiply is not a problem as well. The fun factor in doing this is very, very high. However, based on my experience, most of passion blog does not earn much or takes some time to earn a lot. To tell you the truth, my Heroes site has the highest number of clicks, page impressions and traffic but it is not the blog site with the highest revenue.

Of course, Adsense-Optimized/SEO blogs have the highest revenue. It can generate adsense income with lower clicks and page impressions. Minimal promotion is needed because visitors will be coming from search engines. However, creating an Adsense-Optimized/SEO blog requires a lot of time doing research in the world wide web. Searching for the topic/niche. Finding the keywords with high cost per click (CPC) and low competition. But after setting it up, just wait for around two weeks and expect the fruits of your labor. So what is it? Passion or Adsense-Optimized/SEO Blog?

Answer : It all depends on your blogging purpose. If you want to tell the world your story, then create a passion blog. Otherwise, if you want to earn online Adsense-Optimized/SEO Blog is for you.

Now ask yourself, what's your purpose?

No Regrets Widgets

I have been busy promoting my blogs lately. Thank God it's starting to pay off. Woohoo! Aside from adsense how do I know that my promotion is paying off?

I have tools. I have something that tells me that my site is improving aside from Adsense. These are called widgets.

There are a lot of widgets found in the world wide web. Some are just fancy but others are very useful. On this post I'll be sharing some widgets that I'm using.

These are the three widgets my blogs can't live without.

1. Feedjit
2. Flagcounter
3. WhosAmongUs

Basically these three widgets have the same function. They tell me where the visitors are coming from, what time they made their visit and how did they saw my site. Isn't it great?

If they have the same functionality, why did I use them simultaneously? Answer? Because each has its own limitations.

Anyway, I've changed my mind, I don't want to discuss these three widgets in full detail on this blog post. Just check out my sites to see how they work. Okay?

Nav Bar Removal in Blogger

For this post, I will be sharing how to remove the Nav Bar on the blogger page.

1. Go to Blogger Dashboard
2. Select Layout
3. Edit HTML
4. Find head in HTML this can be done by Ctrl+F then type
5. Place this code after

#navbar-iframe {display: none !important;}

6. Save
