All of the successful people I know talk about their success stories most of the time but within them are hundreds or even thousands of failures stories to tell. Every failure story is worth sharing because failure transforms us into a better person.
Here’s a failure story I got from the book entitled
Switch by Chip and Dan Heath. It’s really worth sharing.
In the 1960s, an executive at IBM made a decision that ended up losing the company $10 million (about $70 million in 2009 dollars). The CEO of IBM, Tom Watson, summoned the offending executive to his office at corporate headquarters. The journalist Paul B. Carroll described what happens next:
As the executive cowered, Watson asked, “Do you know why I’ve asked you here?”
The man replied, “I assume I’m here so you can fire me.”
Watson looked surprised.
”Fire you?” he asked. “Of course not. I just spent $10 million educating you.”
This story illustrates that failing is often the best way to learn. Early failure is a kind of necessary investment.
Every failure gives us an opportunity to learn.
Be a failure and learn from them. See your failures as an investment for your success.
Until my next post.
