Now in its third year in the country and envisioned as a celebration of climate change solutions, Earth Hour Philippines aims to inspire 15 Million Filipinos in 1000 towns, cities and municipalities to switch off and join in the revelry – in an environmentally-conscious manner, that is. Many of the nation’s most iconic landmarks are expected to dim their lights in the largest call for action on climate change. Cities from around the world, from Europe to Africa, are expected to join in.
Join the revolution to out planet!
Here are some tips on how to save our mother earth.
- Invest in power-boards with “off” switches, so you can turn off standby power at night – by turning appliances like TVs off at the wall, it doesn’t waste energy and carbon.
- When you switch to digital TV, choose a set with the Energy Star logo – Energy Star has the lowest standby rating and good overall efficiency.
- Install energy efficient lights - they run on a fraction of the energy and will last a lot longer.
- Double the efficiency of your car by putting another person in it! – this is an easy way to reduce your mobility footprint.
- Make a commitment to walk, ride or take public transport to work regularly – it will save money, and help you stay fit.
- Cut out one flight this year – air travel contributes a lot of greenhouse gases. Choosing to holiday closer to home, or avoiding business travel with teleconferencing, can make a really big difference.
- Ditch the take away coffee cup and get a re-usable one – this will reduce landfill.
- Only buy recycled toilet paper – it’s got a lot better since the early days, and it means less forest destruction for a clean bum!
- Recycle old gadgets – old mobiles, iPods, TVs. Computers and radios contain lots of material that can be recycled such gold, copper and coltan. None of this needs to end up as landfill.
- Get a couple of chooks! Chickens eat food scraps and turn it into fertilizer, and they produce free eggs.
- If you're renovating check out what recycled products are available – this will reduce pressure on the world’s forests which help to stabilize our climate.
- Start a worm farm - the worms will reduce the organic waste going to landfill and it's something the kids can enjoy.

nice tips... other tips might be avoiding some traditions... like only using straws when really in need... and... lessen the use of tarpaulins... the material have very few recycling properties... as for the straw... it may be small but it helps a lot in terms of material pollution is concerned imo :D have a great day
yeah. i agree, we need to minimize the use of these materials especially tarpaulins used as campaign materials.. haha.. :D
really agree... what i dont like about people nowadays... most dont want to change their small non-environmental acts cos of the reason its not that significant and blame instead to major contributors... not thinking that the collective attitude of these people are really the main source... i think that is the main message of earth hour.... 1 hr power savings seems insignificant to the overall environmental impact... but the collective efforts of those participative would cos the earth to survive one day more.... :D
cheers :D
